The usual flavour descriptors for alcohol such as smoky, fruity and citrusy do not really apply. An acquired taste, it is hard to describe the actual taste as many are caught up in the burning sensation down the throat the first time. 茅台独特之处：原料：茅台酒所采用的高粱不是普通的高粱，而是糯性高粱，在当地俗称红缨子高粱。这种高粱与北方地区的高粱略有不同，它的颗粒坚实、饱满，且粒小皮厚、均匀，淀粉含量达88％以上。把高粱粒切开放大来看，它的横截面呈玻璃质地状，特别适合茅台的多次轮番烘烤，而不会消耗太多的营养成分。
